Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

First Reading: Nm 21:4b-9

读经一（那些被蛇咬了的人，一瞻仰铜蛇，就保存了生命。）

恭读户籍纪　21:4-9

 

With their patience worn out by the journey, the people complained against God and Moses,

那时候，以色列子民在旷野，很不耐烦。他们抱怨天主和梅瑟，

 

"Why have you brought us up from Egypt to die in this desert, where there is no food or water? We are disgusted with this wretched food!"

说：“你们为什么领我们由埃及上来，死在旷野？这里没有粮食，又没有水，我们对这些轻淡的食物，已感厌恶。”

 

In punishment the LORD sent among the people saraph serpents, which bit the people so that many of them died.

上主就打发火蛇，到人民当中，咬死了许多以色列人。

 

Then the people came to Moses and said, "We have sinned in complaining against the LORD and you. Pray the LORD to take the serpents from us."

人民于是来到梅瑟面前，说：“我们犯了罪，抱怨了上主和你；请你转求上主，给我们赶走这些蛇。”

 

So Moses prayed for the people, and the LORD said to Moses, "Make a saraph and mount it on a pole, and if any who have been bitten look at it, they will live."

梅瑟于是为人民转求。上主对梅瑟说：“你做一条火蛇，挂在木竿上；凡是被咬的，一瞻仰牠，必得生存。”

 

Moses accordingly made a bronze serpent and mounted it on a pole, and whenever anyone who had been bitten by a serpent looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.

梅瑟就做了一条铜蛇，挂在木竿上；那些被蛇咬了的人，一瞻仰铜蛇，就保存了生命 。

R. Do not forget the works of the Lord!

【答】：你们不要忘记天主的作为。

 

Hearken, my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in a parable, I will utter mysteries from of old.

领：我的百姓，请倾听我的教导。请你们侧耳，听我的训诲。我要开口讲述譬喻，我要说出古代谜语。

 

R. Do not forget the works of the Lord!

【答】：你们不要忘记天主的作为。

 

While he slew them they sought him and inquired after God again, Remembering that God was their rock and the Most High God, their redeemer.

领：上主击杀他们，他们即来寻觅上主。他们回心转意，热切寻求天主，也想起：天主是自己的磐石，至高者天主是自己的救主。

 

R. Do not forget the works of the Lord!

【答】：你们不要忘记天主的作为。

 

But they flattered him with their mouths and lied to him with their tongues, Though their hearts were not steadfast toward him, nor were they faithful to his covenant.

领：可是，他们只是满口谎言，以唇舌欺骗上主。他们的心毫无诚意，又不忠于上主所立的盟约。

 

R. Do not forget the works of the Lord!

【答】：你们不要忘记天主的作为。

 

But he, being merciful, forgave their sin and destroyed them not; Often he turned back his anger and let none of his wrath be roused.

领：但是，上主却慈悲为怀，赦免罪孽，没有消灭他们。上主常常抑止愤怒，没有尽量发泄怒火。

 

R. Do not forget the works of the Lord!

【答】：你们不要忘记天主的作为。

 

Second Reading : Phil 2:6-11

读经二（祂贬抑自己，为此，天主极其举扬祂。）

恭读圣保禄宗徒致斐理伯人书　2:6-11

 

Brothers and sisters: Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped.

弟兄姊妹们：耶稣虽具有天主的形体，并没有以自己与天主同等，为应当把持不舍的，

 

Rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness; and found human in appearance, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross.

却使自己空虚，取了奴仆的形体，与人相似，形状也一见如人；他贬抑自己，听命至死，且死在十字架上。

 

Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

为此，天主极其举扬他，赐给了他一个名字，超越其他所有名字，致使上天、地上和地下的一切，一听到耶稣的名字，无不屈膝叩拜；

 

and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

一切唇舌，无不明认耶稣基督是主，以光荣天主圣父。

Gospel Jn 3:13-17

福音（人子也应照样被举起来。）

恭读圣若望福音　3:13-17

 

Jesus said to Nicodemus: "No one has gone up to heaven except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man.

那时候，耶稣对尼苛德摩说：“没有人上过天，除了那自天降下，而仍在天上的人子。

 

And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life."

正如梅瑟曾在旷野里高举了蛇，人子也应照样，被举起来，使凡信的人，在他内获得永生。”

 

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.

天主竟然这样爱了世界，甚至赐下了自己的独生子，使凡信他的人，不至丧亡，反而获得永生，

 

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.

因为天主没有派遣子到世界上来，审判世界，而是为叫世界，藉着他而获救。
