In those days, like a fire there appeared the prophet Elijah whose words were as a flaming furnace.

当时，兴起了一位激烈如火的先知厄里亚，他的言辞炽热如火炬。

 

Their staff of bread he shattered, in his zeal he reduced them to straits; By the Lord's word he shut up the heavens and three times brought down fire.

他使人民遭遇饥荒，因他嫉恶如仇，使人民的数目大减，他因上主的一句话，关闭了苍天；同样，他也三次使火下降。

 

How awesome are you, Elijah, in your wondrous deeds! Whose glory is equal to yours?

啊，厄里亚！因你的奇蹟，你是多么荣耀！谁能自夸与你相似？

 

You were taken aloft in a whirlwind of fire, in a chariot with fiery horses.

你乘着火马车，被火旋风卷去；

 

You were destined, it is written, in time to come to put an end to wrath before the day of the LORD, To turn back the hearts of fathers toward their sons, and to re-establish the tribes of Jacob.

你受命随时备妥，为在上主发怒以前，平息上主的义怒，为使父亲的心转向儿子，为使雅各伯的各支派恢复旧观。

 

Blessed is he who shall have seen you and who falls asleep in your friendship.

看见你的人，和安眠于爱的人，是有福的！

R.  Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved.

【答】：天主，求你使我们回心转意，显示你的慈颜，好拯救我们。

 

O shepherd of Israel, hearken, From your throne upon the cherubim, shine forth. Rouse your power.

领：以色列的牧养者，恳求你留心细听，坐于革鲁宾之上者，求你大显光荣，求你发显你的威能，快来作我们的救星！

 

R.  Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved.

【答】：天主，求你使我们回心转意，显示你的慈颜，好拯救我们。

 

Once again, O LORD of hosts, look down from heaven, and see; Take care of this vine, and protect what your right hand has planted the son of man whom you yourself made strong.

领：万军的天主，求你领我们回去，求你从高天之上垂视而怜恤！求你常看顾这葡萄树，和你右手种植的园圃，保护你所培养的小树。

 

R.  Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved.

【答】：天主，求你使我们回心转意，显示你的慈颜，好拯救我们。

 

May your help be with the man of your right hand, with the son of man whom you yourself made strong. Then we will no more withdraw from you; give us new life, and we will call upon your name.

领：愿你右手扶持你右边的人。并扶助为你所坚固的子民！从此，我们再不愿意离开你，赐我们生存，为能传扬你名。

 

R.  Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved.

【答】：天主，求你使我们回心转意，显示你的慈颜，好拯救我们。

 

Gospel  Mt 17:9a, 10-13

福音（厄里亚来了，人们却不承认他。）

恭读圣玛窦福音  17:10-13

 

As they were coming down from the mountain, the disciples asked Jesus, "Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"

众门徒从山上下来时，便问耶稣说：“那么，为什么经师说：厄里亚应该先来呢？”

 

He said in reply, "Elijah will indeed come and restore all things; but I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him but did to him whatever they pleased.

耶稣回答说：“厄里亚的确要来，且要重整一切；但我告诉你们；厄里亚已经来了，人们却不认识他，反而任意待了他；

 

So also will the Son of Man suffer at their hands." Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.

照样，人子也要受他们的磨难。”门徒这才明白耶稣给他们所说的，是指的洗者若翰。
